Melodic support comes mainly from violins, harmonicas, the musical saw and penny whistle, and harmony mostly from tenor and five-string banjos.

The Band's rhythm comes from the bass drum and one or two side drums, plus the bones, lagerphone and banjos.

The lineup used to include the Saxolin, but since its owner Percy Crough passed away it's been in the Hokitika Museum. It's a skeletal violin with a diaphragm and a saxophone-like horn, also known and still made as a Strohviol, Stroh-violin or Phonofiddle.

We're principally a button accordion band, with support from other instruments. Until recently there were no piano accordions, largely because their piano keyboard creates a different natural musical character from the button variety.
